Set an Alarm for 7:00 AM
Seven o'clock is the default. If you asked a room full of people what time their alarm is set for, this is the number you would hear most. It assumes a start around nine and a commute of half an hour or so, and it is late enough not to feel like a sacrifice. The field above is already on 07:00.
Because it is the default, it is also the alarm people negotiate with most, which is worth doing the sums on.
Set Alarm
7:00 plus three snoozes is not 7:00
The snooze button on this page adds five minutes. Press it three times and you are up at 7:15 — but you have spent that quarter of an hour in fragmented dozing, interrupted twice by an alarm, which is unlikely to leave you feeling any better than getting up at 7:00 would have.
If you genuinely snooze three times every single morning, then your real wake-up time is 7:15 and you should set it there. You arrive at work at the same moment, you have had fifteen minutes of continuous sleep instead of three broken chunks, and you have stopped starting every day by losing an argument with yourself.
What 7:00 assumes about your day
Roughly: an hour to get ready and out, thirty to forty minutes of travel, a nine o'clock start. Shave twenty minutes off the commute and 7:20 does the same job. Add a school drop-off and 7:00 stops working entirely — that is a 6:45 morning, or earlier.
Worth checking honestly rather than inheriting. A lot of people are still setting the alarm their old commute needed.
Bedtimes for a 7:00 AM wake-up
| Sleep length | Fall asleep by | Go to bed by |
|---|---|---|
| 9 hours | 10:00 PM | 9:45 PM |
| 7 hours 30 minutes | 11:30 PM | 11:15 PM |
| 6 hours | 1:00 AM | 12:45 AM |
If 7:00 is not working, move it
There are two honest fixes. Move the alarm later and tighten the routine to match — usually by moving jobs into the evening. Or keep it and move bedtime earlier, using the table above to see what you are actually asking for. The one approach that reliably fails is leaving 7:00 in place and renegotiating it every single morning at 7:00, when you are the least qualified person available to make the decision.
